Synthesis of sterically hindered aromatic aldehydes

Formylation of mesitylene, durene, and m-xylene derivatives containing electron-donor and electron-acceptor substituents by dichloromethyl methyl ether was studied in the presence of TiCl₄. Thermodynamic behavior of adsorption systems with porous adsorbents along the curves describing equilibrium between bulk phases of an adsorptive

The thermodynamic aspects of adsorption equilibrium in systems with crystalline, liquid, and dense gas phases have been considered. The heats of phase transition and corresponding directions of mass transfer from the adsorbed phase into crystalline and liquid phases at different temperatures have been determined. The general equilibrium diagram in the coordinates Inp-T ^–1 has been given with indication of the equilibrium lines of three-phase systems and characteristic points on the isosteres of adsorption,viz., the Gurvitsch and quasicritical points.Deceased.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Formation of the single-phase ferromagnetic semiconductor (Ga,Mn)As by pulsed laser annealing

It is shown that (Ga,Mn)As layers formed by Mn⁺ ion implantation into GaAs and subsequent annealing by an excimer laser pulse with an energy density to 200–300 mJ/cm² feature the properties of the p-type semiconductor and ferromagnetic properties. The threshold dose of implanted ions (~10¹⁵ cm^–2) for activating Mn acceptors is determined. The sheet hole concentration and the Curie temperature increase with further increasing Mn⁺ ion dose. Hysteresis loops in the magnetic field dependences of the Hall effect, the negative magnetoresistance, and magnetic and structural studies suggest that the layers are analogues of single-phase ferromagnetic compounds (Ga,Mn)As formed by low-temperature molecular beam epitaxy.     

Magnetochemical effects occurring upon treatment of the thin ferromagnetic film surface in an acidic medium

The results from magnetooptical studies of the influence of magnetochemical effects on the surface morphology and local magnetic properties of FeN alloy thin films and thin-film systems that consist of alternating silicon dioxide and FeN layers of submicron thickness, are shown. The dramatic influence of chemical etching on the surface morphology and magnetic characteristics of the investigated samples is revealed.     

Problems for elliptic equations with operator-boundary conditions

We consider, in a Hilbert space H, a problem on [0,1] for a second order elliptic operator-differential equation with operator-boundary conditions. We also consider second order elliptic differential equations with operatorboundary conditions in cylindrical domains in the case when operator-boundary conditions contain integral terms over the whole domain. In this case, the proof of the density of the domain of definition of operators in a space is difficult. When boundary conditions are local, this fact is a simple corollary of the density ofC ₀ () inL _p ().
